Edwin Anthony Lugo Walker, better known as Lugo is an American, Boricua, Nuyorican, Thespian, Songwriter, Vocalist, Activist and Educator. He is the Nephew of American Presidential Medal of Freedom Honoree, Baseball’s Hall of Famer, Legendary Icon and Humanitarian "The great one" Roberto Clemente Walker from Carolina, Boriñquen. Lugo studied Acting and Dance at Performing Arts High School in New York which would later become The Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Lugo attended them both and graduated with honors in 1986. Lugo studied Ballet under James MaCraw and Drama under Bill Britten who appeared as the Iconic Bozo the clown on WPIX T.V. Both his Acting Teachers Jim Moody and Bill Britten played Teachers in the hit film "Fame" by Metro Goldwyn-Mayer based on the The Performing Arts High School and were both also Lugo's Educators and mentors at Performing Arts High School in real life, Art imitating life. There he performed scenes from "Dark at the top of the stairs" by William Inge, "The odd couple" by Neil Simon, "Ahh Wilderness" by Eugene O'Neill, "The Tiger" by Murray Schisgal
and "Dark of the moon" by Howard Richardson and William Berney. Lugo was Awarded A Merit Scholar from YoungArts formerly known as The N.F.A.A (National Foundation for Advancement in the arts) which encouraged Glen Close to mentor Lugo at the behest of Luminary Robert Redford at The Sundance Theatre Lab, UTAH. A partial list of Alumni of Young Arts include Timothée Chalamet, Jessica Darrow, Kerry Washington, Matt Bomer, Billy Porter, Anna Gunn, Andrew Rannells, Kimiko Glenn, Ben Levi Ross, Sam Lipsyte, Chris Young, Neal Dodson, Viola Davis, Nicki Minaj, Ryan McCartan, Doug Aitken, Max Schneider and Lugo's Classmate Presidential Scholar Desmond Richardson who went on to found the revolutionary Complexions Contemporary Ballet featuring dancers of all shapes and hues. Lugo worked and studied at The AMAS Repertory theatre under National medal of Arts Awardee, American Broadway Pioneer, Actor, Dancer, Theatre Founder and Educator Rosetta LeNoire in Harlem who appeared in "The hot Mikado" one of the very first all Alkebulanese shows on Broadway. LeNoire appeared as an Actor Starring in many Hollywood Films and Hit TV programs like “Family matters”, Moscow on the Hudson", "Fritz the cat", "Guess who's coming to dinner", "Brewster's millions" and “Gimme a break”, she was mentored by Eubie Blake and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and granted an audience with His Holiness Pope John Paul II. At fourteen years old Lugo worked under the auspices of The jobs for youth employment program in New York which placed him in many New York Repertory Theatres. He worked and studied at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater under Taino, Borinquena, American Thespian, Founder, Director, Educator and National Medal of Arts Awardee Miriam Colon who began her career in the early 1950s performing on Broadway and on television. She appeared on programs from the 1960s to the 2010s, including Sanford and Son and Gunsmoke. She is best known as
acting the role of Mama Montana, the obstinate mother of Al Pacino's title character in Scarface. In 2014, she received the National Medal of Arts from President Obama. Lugo is a member of The Hudson Guild Theatre Company under the Direction of Jim Furlong where Lugo performed in the stagings of “The letter” by William Somerset Maugham, An adaptation of Wagner's “The ring cycle”, “Thrills and Chills, scenes and stories about fear and terror”, Night with guests" by Peter Wiess and in "The Furies, The fall of the house of Atreus" adapted from the Greek Oresteia of Aeschylus and Electra of Sophocles. In the Spring of 2025 Edwin Lugo Walker will be playing The Role of Agamemnon, King of Argos in "The furries" adapted from The Oresteia of Aeschylus and Elektra of Sophocles

The Hudson Guild Theatre was renamed The Murray Haber Theatre in 2024. Haber was a wealthy philanthropic Real estate man who owned properties in New York's Underserved communities. He loved People and loved The Arts.

Modern-day Latin soul singer Lugo was born Edwin Anthony Lugo, raised in the Bronx, and started singing in his father's church at the age of three. He attended New York's High School for the Performing Arts, and later studied Opera performing "The Daisies"by Samuel Barber, "Amarilli mia bella" by Giulio Caccini and "Amapola" by Joseph Lacalle made popular by Andrea Bochelli. In New York Lugo won on Amateur night at The Apollo on NBC. He competed at The Apollo Theater on wednesday nights winning several nights in a row. From there he went on to work as an actor in musical theater, appearing in the Broadway production of Paul Simon's The Capeman originating The role of Babu Charlie Cruz, as well as Acting in "The Children of Times Square" on ABC. In the early '90s, he began writing songs for dance-pop and Latin artists, including Tracie Spencer, Yomo Toro, Judy Torres, MTV's VJAY Idalis DeLeon, and Odalis Garcia. Toward the late '90s, he played percussion in Five time Grammy Winner Christina Aguilera's backing band, and then he turned his attention to crossover jazz. Lugo is a Pioneer of The Acid Jazz music genre. He sang lead on several tracks for The Holland Tunnel Project on their 1999 album A Smooth Taste of Jazz, He wrote material for Acid Jazz guitarist Ronny Jordan; and both wrote and sang on Norman Brown's Grammy-winning Pop Instrumental Album Just Chillin' in 2002. Also in 2002, Lugo's first full-length release "Good to Go" appeared on the UK, Cafe de Soul label, showcasing his jazzy, Latin-flavored brand of smooth soul. "Good to go" was also released in San Marino and The Holy Vatican City by Universal Music. And soon after his rendition of "Alabare" was released by the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle in San Juan, Texas.
Edwin Anthony Lugo Walker was born in Manhattan and grew up in the South and North Bronx. His family moved into Public housing on Randall Ave. in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx where he attended Junior High School where he played the Violin in the Public School's Orchestra. He performed at his graduation ceremony various works including Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, the Academy Award winning score from "Chariots of fire" and "Endless love" by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie. After High School Lugo accepted a Scholarship granted by YoungArts to study at The University of Texas at Austin where he studied Drama and Opera. His singing repertoire includes "The Daisies" by Samuel Barber, Amarilli, mia bella by Giulio Caccini and "Amapola" by Jose Maria Lacalle which was made famous by Andrea Bocelli. Lugo returned to New York after school and settled into the apartment building once called The Kinghaven which during The Harlem Renaissance belonged to then Jazz Pioneer, Tenor Saxophone player and band leader Colman Hawkins or "The Hawk" who first presented Miles Davis and Jazz to the world. Lugo is an autodidact. He plays piano, violin, guitar, percussion and is well versed in Protools, Logic and machine learning applications like SONOS an M.I.T developed tool for songwriting and music production. He grew up across the street from a young budding Starlet none other than Nuyorican Jennifer Lopez. Her house was clearly visible from his bedroom window on the 8th floor of the Public Housing building on Zerega Ave.
At The University of Texas at Austin Lugo performed in various productions "The Physicists" by Friedrich Dürrenmatt and “Revenge of The Space Pandas” by Pulitzer Prize Winner David Mamet. Austin Texas is where Lugo first began his love of recording music at SRS (Sound Recorder's Studios) on Guadalupe a.k.a "The Strip". He cut his teeth performing Live, Dance, Funk, Soul and R&B music at College frat parties and in bars and clubs along The popular 6th Street. Back East Lugo Starred in "Stand Up Tragedy" in the role of Freddy at The Hartford Stage Company in Hartford Connecticut Directed by Ron Link earning his membership into Actor's Equity Association.
Lugo is a Pioneer of the Acid Jazz musical genre but other genres he is proficient in include Children's music, Latin, Jazz, Gospel, Contemporary R&B, Neo-Soul, Salsa, Classical, Rock, Reggae, Pop, Funk, Instrumental, Soul and Latin Soul. Nuyorican Lugo Starred on Broadway in sixteen-time Grammy Award Winner, two-time Rock and Roll Hall of fame inductee, Gershwin Prize Winner, Kennedy Center Honoree, Lawyer and Abolitionist of Apartheid in South Alkebulan Paul Simon who discovered Lugo for “The Capeman”. Paul's lyrics were co-written by Nobel Prize Winner in literature and MacArthur Fellow Sir Derek Walcott who was awarded the Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia by Queen Elizabeth. Lugo Starred along with twelve-time Grammy Award Winners Marc Anthony and twenty-two-time Grammy Award Winner, Actor, Songwriter, Vocalist, Finia All-Star, Politician and Lawyer Ruben Blades. Blades introduced Lugo to Twenty eight time Grammy Award winner and Legend Quincy Jones. Blades continues to Mentor Lugo, and calls him "Lugito". When Lugo originated the role of Babu Charlie Cruz on Broadway in Paul Simon's The Capeman Lugo preformed authentic Puerto Rican music which was the first and only time in History that Puerto Rican music was ever presented on Broadway. Simon brought with him help from Fania All Star and multiple Grammy Winner and Maestro Oscar Hernández as Musical Director/Conductor/Arranger and Producer. The show is composed of Traditional Salsa, Bomba y Plena, Rumba, Bolero, Aguinaldo, Latin Pentecostal Alabanzas, Alkebulanese Yoruba chants along with Doo-op and Traditional Rock music. Paul recruited Boriquas seven time Grammy Award Winner Jose Feliciano and Maestro Danny Rivera to record and perform the spirited song "Born in Puerto Rico". Lugo appears in a total of four songs from The Capeman's Cast Album on Universal Music Classical (1998) "Born in Puerto Rico" "Shoplifting clothes", "Handball game" and his solo verse in "You fucked up my life”. The lyric from Lugo's solo is "We'll That's just the Roll of the dice." which later became the title of The BBC Documentary Directed by Jerremy Mare. Lugo is especially featured in the Capeman documentary in special rare interviews and Voice overs. In creating "The Capeman” Paul Simon became the first American Rockstar and Composer to present on Broadway in the modern era. Rock Stars were not "welcome" in a "London West End" dominated Broadway. After The Capeman every Rock Star that has had Broadway success from Elton John, Sting, Tina Turner to Michel Jackson owes a debt of gratitude to Paul Simon who first paved the way. Lugo is The Songwriter & Vocalist on the Grammy Award winning “Just Chillin” by Norman Brown, song “In my life” (2002). Lugo wrote and performed the songs "Keep your head up", "Say that you are" and "Never let you go" for the Acid Jazz album and group “The Holland Tunnel Project, a smooth blend of Jazz” (1999) on Irma Records in Italy. Lugo's songs on the album generated many remixes including from The orange factory, Harley and Muscle and Don Carlos. Lugo is the lead Vocalist of the Holland Tunnel Project touring The Capital of London England and Acton in North London, England. Acid Jazz Guitarist Ronny Jordan covered the song "Keep your head up" by Lugo for Blue note records on his solo Album “Off the record”. Lugo's first solo album was released in 2002 on the Cafe de Soul label in London England entitled "Good to go”. He returned to Club Mezzo in London a second time to promote his solo album where Neo-Soul and Acid Jazz were very popular. The title track “Good to go” was released in The U.K and in Italy, San Marino and Vatican City by Universal Music. Lugo was signed as a Recording Artist to RCA Records via Panda Recording and subsequently by "Bassy" Bob Brockman as a Publisher and Songwriter to BMG UFA Musik Verlage, one of Germany's oldest and most distinguished entertainment brands, with an artistic heritage of films like 'Metropolis', 'The Blue Angel' and the films of German Expressionism. Lugo wrote and performed raps for Traci Spencer’s anthem “This house” on Capitol Records (1990) and for UK mega Pop group Bros’s song “Chocolate in the box” (1989) on CBS. He wrote songs for Latin Soul Fania Legend Yomo Toro entitled “Stop playing with my heart” (2013) Island Records, for Freestyle's Judy Torres entitled “Missing part” (1989) on Profile Records. He wrote a song entitled “Julia” for Paul Shapiro's Klezmer Jazz band at City Winery in New York. Lugo was Vocalist in residency at The Groove in New York with the band Li’nard’s many moods where Prince frequently attended. Lugo composed songs like “It’s not magic” for Li'nard's many moods recorded in (2006) for World music connections. Lugo shared the bill with American Warrior and American Master Pete Seeger at Riverside Church in a Special Concert for Immigrants. Lugo performed for groups Outburst, Coalition, Tuba, Paradise Programe, Underground ministries, Dominico and Mikee deep. He produced music for Grammy Award Winner Gina Fuego on the Voices of Hope, Rural and Migrant Ministries compilation for farm workers, the song “Hecha le Canela”. He composed and Produced for Jazz Artists Stevie Holland, Pop Artist Vannessa Barrera, Latin Artist Odalys Garcia, Pop Artist Roxy Medina, Groundbreaking MTV VJ and Member of The Hit Group Seduction Idalis De Leon and for Benny Medina’s Handprint Entertainment’s Pop group Duo. Lugo’s Latin Soul song “Fuera de la mente” by Duce Martinez is featured in twenty-four time Grammy Award Winner Jay-Z's Hip Hop film "State Property" Directed by Golden globe and multiple Telly Award Winner Abdul Malik Abbott. Lugo’s music appears on MTV's reality shows "Made", "Trailer fabulous" and on "From flab to fab". Lugo’s music also appears in "Ben's Zoo" (A BBC program) and on "BET's Jazz Brunch". The song "Alabare" was licensed by The Basilica of our Lady of San Juan Del Valle. (2012). His early work was produced by DJ and Remixing Pioneer Justin Strauss at Jimmy Hendricx’s Electric Lady and Right track recording studios in New York. Fox 5 news Videographer, Producer, Guitarist and Songwriter David Stollak was the first to ever hire Lugo to demo songs he had written. David collaborated with Lugo both at his home Studios in New York and at his home in rural Connecticut. David accompanied Lugo on guitar on his final Capeman audition at SIR (Studio Instrument Rentals) Studios in Hell’s Kitchen and was grateful to meet and play for his hero Paul Simon a song he had written and I sang called "Testify". When it was over Paul asked Lugo “Who wrote that song?" and David sheepishly replied "I did." and Paul declared "Very nice. Good job." David and I both left Verklempt like schoolboys. David was a mentor and friend to Lugo for many years. At Fox 5 David worked with a young Boriqua named Nina Diaz. Nina introduced Lugo to David. Nina knew Lugo from mutual friends from Performing Arts High School. She became an American media executive and television producer. She is The President of Content and Chief Creative Officer for Showtime/MTV. She created shows Love & Hip Hop, Mob Wives, America's Next Top Model, and Cribs. Boriqua Duce Martinez and Harold Martin Jr. together Produced Lugo at Ironbound Sound in Newark, New Jersey. Multiple Grammy Award Winner composer and Producer Rob Fusari aka 8Bit who gave Lady Gaga her name, discovered, produced and penned her first hit album also collaborated with Lugo. Fusari authored many Soulful songs for Lugo to perform in the early twentyfirst century. Fusari wrote and produced Destiny's Child's first hits.
Seminal Engineer/Mixer/Producer/Musician Multiple Grammy Award Winner and Academy Award Nominee, Studio owner "Bassy" Bob Brockmann recorded, produced and collaborated with Lugo in New York on multiple recordings both at his Big Bottom Studios in Alphabet City and at NumediaNY Studios near NYU along with Grammy Nominated Yaron Fuchs (Herbie Hancock, John Mayer, Annie Lennox, Ben Harper, Smashing Pumpkins, Public Enemy and Talib Kweli). "Bassy" Bob has more than 30 of his productions tracked in the Top 10 of Billboard’s HOT 100. "Bassy" was nominated for over 50 Grammy awards (3 for Best Engineered Album), and won over 25 associated Grammys for his mixing and production work, "Bassy" has been instrumental in the careers of many collaborating producers including Puff Daddy, Chucky Thompson, LA Reid, Babyface, Surface, David Gamson, Trevor Horn, Kanye West and Lugo. "Bassy" collaborated with The Fugees, Notorious BIG, Craig Mack, Toni Braxton, Babyface, Cee Lo Green, Soulive, Surface, Brian McKnight, Christina Aguilera, Brandy, Mary J Blige, Faith Hill, Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow and the Dixie Chicks. On the morning of 9/11 2001 Bob and Lugo were mid-flight from New York to L.A to attend The Latin Grammy Awards but plans were cut short by history on that beautiful solemn day in September. Their flight was spared. Goodness and mercy protected them on that day. Goodness and mercy.
Lugo began his career as an undefeated Winner on the legendary Apollo Theatre on "Amateur night then at “Showtime at the Apollo" on NBC. French Producer Patric Lore was so impressed with Lugo at The Apollo and Club Tatou that he recorded him along with Tony Award Winner Billy Porter at his “One soul” Studios in Queens, New York. Lore recorded Lugo performing Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy, mercy me”, the song Lugo won with at The Apollo. The unreleased Album/Demo “One soul” includes Billy Porter who recorded the ballad “Never really mine to lose”. It was Lore who introduced Lugo to Ordre des Arts et des Lettres award winner, Officer of the Légion d'honneur Mime Artist The Master Marcel Marceau at The Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College. Lore knew Marcel and his Company from back in France and Lugo was welcomed as Marceu’s guest at The French Embassy’s official reception of The Marceau Touring Mime Troop in New York.
Lugo began his Humanitarian work touring as an Artist in 2005 with his band "Latin Soul" for the U.S.O (United Service Organization)/AFE (Armed Forces Entertainment) Performing for The Troops in Japan, Korea, Italy, Spain and War torn Afghanistan for which he was awarded The NATO Diplomat Award by The U.S Department of Defense. Lugo performed at Academy Award Winner Robert Redford's Sundance Theatre. Lugo was sponsored by Youngarts to voullenteer at Robert Redford Sundance Theatre Lab. He asked Glen Close to mentor Lugo and she did so gladly both in Utah and in New York. Multiple Tony Award Winners Glen Close and Tyne Daly read plays with Lugo. He performed the plays “The Eva Luna Project” directed by Della Davidson, “True history and real adventures” directed by Tony Award Winner Michael Mayer and for the Broadway play “Sixteen Wounded” written by Eliam Kraiem. Lugo is an International Artist Performing at the The Jazz Café in London, Live from The Mauritius Islands in Alkebulan, at UNSCO's Primavera en la Havana in Cuba, at City Winery, Sob's, The Nuyorican Poets Café which was lauded by Alan Ginsberg as "the most integrated place on earth." Lugo's wardrobe at The Nuyorican Poets Cafe and at SOB's were both designed by Ballroom Legend Marciel Christian for The House of Christian. Lugo played at The Virgin Mega store in New York, Club Tatou both in New York and Los Angeles, and at SOB’s in New York. Lugo performed as a Vocalist for The National Dance Institute (NDI). Under the Direction of New York City Ballet Principal Dancer, Star in films "Seven brides for seven brothers" and "Carousel" Choreographer, Educator, Kennedy Center Honoree and National Medal of Arts Awardee Jacques d'Amboise. Lugo Performed with The Trenton Education Dance Institute (TEDI) for The Children's home society of Trenton, New Jersey performing alongside and for many underserved children at The National Dance Institute’s Broadway Gala and at schools all over the Tri-state area all under the auspices of Jacques d'Amboise. Lugo Sang the "Ave maria" by Franz Schubert at the historic Angel Orensanz Foundation and "Amazing Grace by John Newton at Curepipe Baptist Church (Mauritius)
Lugo played percussion for Grammy Award Winner Christina Aguilera at Radio City Music Hall, for the MTV’s VMA’s. Lugo is A Thespian on T.V and in film. Lugo appears in "Law and order", in Academy Award Winning Director Steven Soderberg's "The Knick" playing opposite Andre Holland on Cinemax, in Curtis Hanson’s “The Children of Times Square” playing opposite Howard Rollins and Joanna Cassidy on ABC, in Darnel Martin's films "To be a man" and her hit film for Columbia Pictures "I like it like that" Starring EGOT Rita Moreno, in “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” Produced by Tina Faye for Netflix, in “God friended me” on CBS, in FBI on CBS, in “High Maintenance” with Director Silas Howard and “Treme” both on HBO, in Academy Award winner Robert Deniro's “NYC 22” on CBS and in Academy Award winner Steve Zaillian’s “The night of” on HBO. Lugo appears in commercials for Apple's iPad, Mr. Phips and McDonalds.

Lugo is a member in good standing of SAG AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild), AEA (Actors Equity Association , Music organizations NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences), ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers), BMI Broadcast Music Incorporated) and SESAC (Society of European Stage Authors and Composers). He is a prolific music producer and Songwriter for his Love Kiss Music Label. His official Artist U.S Trademark is Lugo which he protects from scores of people who in futility try to use the name Lugo to release music. Lugo educates young adults and children in Acting, Singing and Musical Theatre at The New York Performing Arts Academy where he won The President’s Volunteer Service Award or One Thousand Points of light Award for his work as an Educator of young Children and Young Adults from around the world. Lugo received a Grammy Award certificate for Songwriting and Singing, A mercy beat appreciation Award, A Second Infantry Korea Award, Outstanding Performance Award Camp Eagle Area 3 Korea Award, Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding caliber of entertainment United States Forces Korea and a Telly Award for Songwriting and Singing the song “Feel me now” in the short film “Balance of power” directed by multiple Telly and Golden Globe winner film and TV Director Abdul Malik Abbott (Jay-Z, Abby Lincoln and Foxy Brown). Lugo is a resident of Manhattan Plaza in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen. Alicia Keys grew up in Lugo's building and her Tony Award winning Jukebox Musical "Hell’s Kitchen" is set in and based on Manhattan Plaza, a very special and privileged place for an American Artist to live. It is a hallowed place where the works of The Artist are celebrated. To quote Lugo's Neighbor The incomparable Andre DeShilds who said half jokingly and half serious to Lugo "Welcome to the Dormitory!" Manhattan Plaza is presented as Americas' "University" or "Conservatory" for the American Artist of all disciplines. The list of Luminary Artist/Denizens from Manhattan Plaza is expansive. Tennesse Williams, Al Pacino, James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, Timothée Chalamet, Terrance Howard, Alan Menken, Charles Mingus, Mickey Rourke, Jack Warden, Patrick Dempsey, Alan Menken, Jane Alexander, Nell Carter, Giancarlo Esposito, Donald Faison and Samuel L. Lugo is a Communications Workers of America / Newspaper Guild Local Union Officer awarded after attending The National Labor College in Maryland for his Organizing workers at El Diario La Prensa, The Spanish Language Daily NewsPaper in New York. Lugo continues to Publish music and also publish Literature. The film script based on the life of Puerto Rican National Dolores Loitta Lebron called “Dolores Lebron (The True Story of Lolita)” and his first Autobiography called "Lugo, An Autobiography" highlights his poetry, adventures as an Artist, anecdotes on growing up Nuyorican, his same-sex identity and his Puerto Rican, Alkebulanese, Iberian, Taino, Latino, Italo, New York and Nuyorican heritage.
